The First Crater

Sorry for the watermark. I wish it was avoidable but people really like to steal art these days. ©Throughliner

First things first I should mention that I have no affiliation with the Stuckey’s company, and I have to get legal advice on copyright before I can put this one in the store, so unfortunately it’s not there as of now. This was actually a gift to my father for his birthday. When I went to school for audio engineering at The Blackbird Academy, I got to record his band The Factory Line in a professional studio as my final project. It was a great opportunity to thank him for being the one to get me into music in the first place. One of the songs we recorded was titled “Stuckey’s Sign” and that gave me an idea for an album cover. As they wrote more songs for the record, the image became a little clearer in my head, and I took a few things from other songs to amalgamate into the image above. Things like the Grim Reaper and the moon. I’ve always liked when album covers are full blown custom art pieces, and I thought it’d be a perfect gift, especially since I had a hand in the recording of some of the songs. I’m very happy with how it turned out, at first I wasn’t sure if I could pull off the effect I wanted with the Earth, but I managed. I think I captured the kind of desolate feeling I was going for, and I ended up really enjoying the feeling having only a Stuckey’s on the moon gave. The fallen sign I think really adds to the vibe as well. The good ol’ moon desert. I knew the sky had to be vibrant as a contrast, and it helps with the image feeling kind of magical despite the scene portrayed, on top of my usual style of abstraction. Music is one of my favorite things to ever have existed so I really enjoyed creating a visual representation for it, and I will absolutely do it again in the future, for my own things and maybe some other people as well should the opportunity arise. Also check out my dad’s band The Factory Line on social media, they’ll drop music on streaming platforms soon. There’s also a button linked to their Facebook below.
